Common questions about children & teen therapy
Children and teen therapy provides a safe and supportive space for young individuals to explore their emotions, develop coping skills, and address challenges like anxiety, grief, or emotional regulation. It’s tailored to their unique developmental needs and uses approaches like Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
If your child is struggling with intense emotions, behavioral changes, difficulty communicating, or challenges like grief, bullying, or anxiety, therapy can help. Signs include withdrawal, trouble managing anger, or changes in sleep and appetite.
Therapy sessions are designed to be engaging and age-appropriate. For younger children, therapists may use Play Therapy or Art Therapy to help them express their feelings. Teens may engage in talk therapy, mindfulness exercises, or activities to explore their emotions and develop coping strategies.
The duration of therapy depends on your child’s specific needs and goals. Some children benefit from short-term therapy, while others may need ongoing support to address deeper challenges.
Yes, parent involvement is encouraged. Therapists may provide parent coaching, offer feedback after sessions, or involve parents in certain activities to strengthen the parent-child relationship and ensure consistent support at home.
Therapists maintain confidentiality to create a safe space for teens to open up. However, therapists will involve parents if there are concerns about safety or harm to the teen or others.
Therapy provides a safe space for children and teens to process their grief at their own pace. Techniques like Play Therapy, Art Therapy, and mindfulness help them express their feelings, understand their loss, and find ways to heal.
It’s common for children or teens to feel hesitant at first. Therapists are trained to build trust and create a comfortable environment. Parents can help by explaining that therapy is a supportive space where they can talk about anything without judgment.
We offer both in-person sessions at our Rockland location and virtual therapy across Ontario, providing flexibility to meet the needs of your family.
Most insurance plans cover therapy services. We recommend checking with your provider to confirm coverage. Note that Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) may not cover child and teen therapy.
